Cherstin M. Lyon, Ph.D.

Cherstin Lyon is a trained guide for wilderness-based rites of passage experiences.
She has completed guide training with the School of Lost Borders and Rites of Passage Journeys, and has worked as a guide for Rites of Passage Journeys. Her training and experience focuses on rites of passage experiences for humans assigned female at birth, young adults, and individuals navigating loss, trauma, and grief. She is a certified wilderness first responder with training in psychological first aid, and has completed certifications in grief, trauma, and somatic therapies. While not a licensed therapist, Cherstin’s guiding work is deeply grounded in trauma-informed approaches to rites of passage work. Rites of passage experiences are “therapeutic” by nature, but are not therapy, and do not replace therapy with a licensed mental health professional.
Cherstin brings more than two decades of experience mentoring university students one-on-one, and guiding groups on both nature-based and international immersive learning experiences. Her guiding work and previous university work has been with a broad range of ages, 15 to 82 years of age, and with people from diverse backgrounds.
